Optimal Keyword Placement For Your Website
If you have ever run an internet business, you know the importance of SEO for your site and traffic
. Choosing the right keywords is crucial to your search engine optimization plan. Unrelated keywords means the traffic you get is not relevant, key phrases that are too short means you are not likely to rank well for some time, and phrases that are too long are easier to rank well for but don't bring a significant amount of traffic. When you start a SEO campaign, choosing the keywords is the first place to start, but once you have chosen your keywords, what do you do next?
Once you have chosen the keywords that you want to focus on during your SEO campaign, the next step is to prepare your web pages. Web pages should be focused around 1 to 3 highly related keywords and phrases. For example, if we were to build a site focused around the key phrases "small online business", "internet business opportunity", and "home based business" then we would want to set at least one keyword as our most important and make that keyword a perfect match in our title but also include all the words for the other keywords in the title, but make sure that title reads well to customers because this is what they are going to read when deciding if they want to click on your site. A good title may be something like "Small Online Home Based Business Opportunity: Internet Business Solutions". The title reads easily and has all of the keywords that we wanted to target of which "Home Based Business" if a perfect match.
After the title of the page has been revised, the next step is to build a meta description that customers could read in less than 10 seconds that describes your company and uses every phrase exactly. Next, on your page, before the bulk of the content, add your #1 keyword in an H1 tag. Preferably exactly as the key phrase (i.e. Home Based Business). After the H1 tag you will create a 250 word paragraph that describes your business and services and uses every key phrase at least twice. Later on down the page where customers may not be looking as much, you should then add the other two key phrases in H2 or H3 tags with more relevant information. This information should read well to customers and contain whatever key phrase is in the tag directly above.
There are many steps involved in doing SEO but the first steps are deciding what keywords to focus and then placing in the right locations on your target web page. Without the keywords properly placed, you will spend more time and money than you really need on off-site SEO, and in modern business that can leave you out of business.
