Options For The Nurse Graduate

There are so many opportunities for nurse graduates today

, that it seems to be nearly a sea of them are about, beckoning to the new nurses to come work in one position or another. The key to finding the best opportunity, however, is to really think about what you can relate to. Like all relationships in life, that of the nurse and his or her chosen nursing career much work, as much as possible. With such a high turn-around being the norm for nursing positions, the less a nurse likes about a job, the more likely it is for them to quit.

As for new nurses, however, there is so much of an unknown country out there, so to speak, that it might seem even more difficult to find the 'right" job, once out of nursing school. If you think about what your personality is like, you might get a better clue as to whether or not you would thrive in an Emergency Room, for example. Or, you might think about applying for positions as a school nurse, or for a corporation. No matter what position you apply for, however, you will be in competition with nurses who are experienced, so unless you are an ideal candidate for a position, you will meet with much rejection, from being a "newbie".

There is absolutely no reason to be discouraged, however. It's very often that new nursing students are the ones sought after, over the more seasoned nurses. This is largely due to the fact that there isn't any "jading" of the individual, not while so new in the game. Jaded nurses can be quite bitter and slightly hard to deal with, whereas new nurses, fresh out of nursing school, tend to be easier to work with and instruct, when it comes to specific types of nursing positions. This doesn't mean that they have lesser room for error, however. This is why most people who hire nurses will take experience over anything, mostly.

Since there are many fields of medical expertise, a new nurse can literally look for what he or she would like to work in, while considering applying for work. For example, if you are inclined toward children, then working with a pediatrician would be good or perhaps you'd like to work in a birthing facility with newborns. By contract, maybe you have a yen for phlebotomy or in an area of expertise that you've been fancying for a long time.

Experienced nurses will tell you to follow your heart as well as your gut instinct, when it comes to applying for work. Sure, you will be competing with other nurses, but if you merely put your resume out there and catch something you don't want, you'll have then joined the ranks of nurses looking to get out of their current career. If you want to at least have a fighting chance at staying where are first hired, then do the following: 1. Know what area you would like to work in; 2. Apply, apply, apply like wild fire to ONLY jobs within the area of your choice; very easy.
