Organization For The Home - 4 Questions To Ask Before Getting Started With Home Organization

Before getting started with organizing your home, you need to make a plan on how you are going to proceed. Naturally you could start right away and do bits and pieces whenever you like and how much you like. However having a plan before you start creates a good structure for your home organization project and increases the possibility that you actually finish the project. In this article I describe the four different questions you have to ask yourself before you start organizing and decluttering your home.

Why?

Before you get started, you need to have a clear idea why you want to start the home organization project in the first place. This gives you the motivation to get started and continue working with it whenever you don't feel like it. My reason and motivation of getting started with home organization was, that I wanted to have a home which is easier to use by having the essential stuff there only. Another reason was to have a home which is easier and faster to clean. Your reasons do not have to be complicated, just something that makes you to eventually complete your task.

When?

You need to have a dedicated time blocks when you are organizing your home. For me the fixed time on weekends works the best, since I have most of my free time then. Also, I can plan my schedule ahead when I know that at some point during the weekend I'm doing the organization.

How?

What plans do you have for the stuff you are getting rid of? Are you going to donate it, sell it or recycle it? The faster you figure this one out, the greater possibility there is that the plastic bags containing the stuff you want to get rid of, will eventually be processed.

What?

Do you know what rooms you are going to organize? Also, what equipment are you going to need? If you know this stuff before starting with a task, it makes the process easier. This is because you don't have to waste time on making the decision about these, when you should get started with the actual task. Also, after finishing a room, you know what's the next room the organize according your plan.
