Orthopaedic Claims

, you should contact a solicitor without delay, as you could be entitled to claim compensation for the pain and suffering you have been caused.

Orthopaedic Medical Negligence.

Orthopaedics is an area of medical expertise which specialises in treating diseases and disorders of the musculo-skeletal system. This is a complex system covering many different elements of the body, including the bones, joints, tendons, ligaments muscles and nerves. Orthopaedic surgeons must therefore apply their professional knowledge a wide range of problems, and can be called upon to treat anything from a broken bone to a congenital hip condition.

Not only must orthopaedic surgeons have a wide field of expertise, they are also required to perform complicated procedures, many of which are of an invasive nature. With these two factors combined, it is hardly surprising that mistakes do occur. In fact, the statistics reveal orthopaedics medical negligence claims are now two to three times more common than other types of claim; it appears, therefore, that orthopaedic surgeons are more likely to make errors than other medical professionals.

Some of the most common types of orthopaedic errors include:-

* Problems with total hip replacement;

* Failure to diagnose hip dysplasia;

* Failure to diagnose a fracture;

* Nerve damage;

* Wrong-site surgery;

* Infection after surgery;

* Misinterpretation of x-rays;

* Poor surgical skills.

Making an Orthopaedic Negligence Claim.

If you have been under the care of an orthopaedic surgeon who has provided a substandard level of treatment, you will understandably be feeling angry and upset about the additional injuries you have sustained. If so, you should speak to a legal expert about the medical treatment you received, as it may be that you were the victim of medical negligence.

A medical negligence solicitor will be able to clarify whether or not you are in a position to make a claim. Typically, however, you will be entitled to pursue legal action if your orthopaedic doctor provided a level of care that fell below an acceptable standard, and this then caused you to suffer an injury.

If you are able to make a claim and it is successful, you will be awarded compensation for the pain, suffering and loss of amenity you have experienced. You will also be given a sum of money to recover the finances you have lost as a direct result of your negligence treatment.

Seek Legal Advice.

To find out more about making an orthopaedic medical negligence claim, you need to contact a specialist solicitor as soon as possible. Claims usually have to be made within three years of the incident, so it is important not to delay when seeking expert legal advice.
