Our Current Healthcare System Needs An Overhaul

It is the belief of thousands of U.S doctors are asking the government to provide

resources for national health coverage, which they think might be able to cover the health care needs of all Americans while also saving a substantial amount of money. A long time since a national health coverage proposal did not pass Congress, wrapped in complex language and controversy that was severely criticized by those in the pharmaceutical, insurance and medical industries, doctors contend that private sector solutions have not been effective.

These doctors also contend current efforts of Congress to create a prescription drug benefiting the disabled and elderly would mean private companies receiving more government funding without offering any real value to the actual consumers. Physicians argue in favor of a one party paying system, more or less an expanded and improved version of Medicare, which is the disabled and senior citizens' current health care plan provided by the government.

Health maintenance organizations, which were once hoped to be the beacon of hope for the industry, have done little that turned out to be advantageous as they have raised costs even as their esteem has dropped sharply. Our health care system needs a lot of help - hospital chains that are owned by investors and had claimed to be more efficient than other hospital models, have recently been in the midst of scandal. The doctors take issue with the practices of pharmaceutical companies that have massive profits, yet enjoy some of the lowest take rates in the industry all while selling drugs at prices that makes them unreachable for the average American consumer. One of the original proposals that advocated the single payer system was written up in the Journal of Medicine.

Headed up by two previous surgeons general as well as the prior editor of a major American medical journal, the body of doctors appealed for a national form of health insurance. It has been pointed out by a lecturer from Harvard Medical School the current system is obviously self-destructing and will not be able to continue the way it has been. No one is claiming that the single payer system is the most ideal selection; they are saying that it proves to be the only practical option.

However, despite all of these experts and industry professionals supporting health care reform, the American Medical Association is still opposed to the single payer health care system. He says that if the United States ends up bringing in the single payer system, would be like trading a single serious problem for a whole bunch of serious problems. He made mention of extensive periods of time in expecting health care services, a sluggish response to take on management of facilities and new technologies, the expansion of a sizable bureaucracy that could result in a slowing in the power of patients and their doctors over clinical decisions - all of which are qualities of the single payer system.

The lobbying branch of the managed health care profession, the American Association of Health Plans, additionally reported that it does not support the doctor's proposal because it would extirpate profit for health maintenance groups and hospitals. The American Medical Association states that the doctors who support the proposal for a single payer system, represent less than one percent of the hundreds of thousands of doctors in this country. However, another doctor has suggested that it is important to note that there are a significant number of doctors now in support of a government health care program who at one time were in opposition to it.
