Our Events & Adventures of Getting Locked in a Metro Station
When you decide to go to a Washington Redskins game for the first time, making travel plans is a good idea. Since nobody wanted to drive we figured we'd take the Metro and walk to the stadium from there. It was a freezing night that made all of the events to come much worse.
When we boarded the Metro we saw other people in Redskins attire so we figured we were on the right train. It was an extremely long ride. At one point we had to get off of the train and wait for the next one. Right then and there I was ready to just go home. It was so cold and windy that I could only imagine what sitting for three hours in the outdoors would feel like. So let's just say the ride and walk to the stadium were filled with adventures.
After getting off of the train we just followed the crowd. The walk seemed to take forever. There was so much ice and leftover slushy snow and snow banks on the streets that it took us twice as long to get there as it should have. We missed the first quarter of the game but got to our seats in the nosebleed section and went to get some overpriced hot chocolate. That did the trick for about 15 minutes. The events of the evening so far were enough to send us home in the middle of the fourth quarter, not only because we were all ice cubes, but also because the Redskins were losing badly and we just didn't see any hope of a comeback.
We left the stadium and followed several packs of people to what we thought was the direction to the Metro station. Wrong. We walked nearly three miles out of our way only to discover it was in the other direction. The walk back to the Metro took forever and at that hour of the night the trains run sometimes up to every 24 minutes that was of course the case with us. When it was time for us to switch to the yellow line we entered the station and waited for what seemed like an hour. I finally went to check with the information guy about when the train was coming, but he wasn't there. The entire station had been shut down until 5:00a.m.!!! We called the police to see if they could help us, all to no avail. We waited for the first train to come sleeping on benches (at least we were underground.) In my book, going to the Redskins game contained too many adventures for my liking. And the most ironic part of all is I'm a huge Giant's fan.
