Our Visit To The Pissouriana Hotel, Pissouri

We arrived at the hotel around 9.30pm in January 2012 and was pleasantly surprised to find the hotel was still open as most hotels we have visited during winter normally close. Upon our arrival we were greeted by the (we think) owner of the Pissouriana Hotel who asked us the normal questions "how was your journey?", "where do you come from?" and "is this your first visit to Cyprus?". She was very polite and even asked us if we would like something to eat, not wanting a full meal we just asked for a cheese sandwich. With our sandwich we shared a bottle of Keo, as we were on holiday! So far so good, we just arrived at the hotel, we were offered something to eat and we were now relaxing enjoying a beer. I forget the price of the sandwich and the bottle of beer combined but a large Keo is priced at "'2.80.

THE ROOMS

Our room was on the second floor and had two balconies, one over looking the pool and countryside and the other towards the village square. There was no lift at the hotel so we had to carry our suitcases up two flights of stairs, this wasn"t a problem for us but for older people this may cause a concern. The rooms were very basic with pine furniture which was varnished, not really to our taste but acceptable for a short stay. The kitchen facilities were limited and offered a fridge, small kettle and a 2 plate mini hob. If we were staying here for two weeks we would find the room ,and lack of faciities, quite challenging as we like to visit places which offer abit more comfort and better self catering facilities. On a plus side, the bedroom had a balcony which overlooked the countryside and this displayed breathtaking views of Pissouri and I can only imagine what the setting would be like during sunrise and sunset.

GENERAL FACILITIES

The hotel has a swimming pool which guests can use. Surrounding the pool are sun beds where you can sit back and soak up the sun and work on that tan! The hotel regularly holds live football and having watched several matches at the hotel there can be quite a good atmosphere during tourists and expats alike. I also re-visited the hotel for the Manchester United vs Chelsea match during the 2011/12 season and there was a great atmosphere and being a Manchester United fan I was especially happy as my team won.

OVERALL VERDICT

The Pissouriana Hotel offers a simple holiday in Pissouri with no real frills attached, however, what it does offer is good value for money, friendly staff and it"s in a great location and close to all the amenities which Pissouri has to offer. We would gladly recommend this hotel onto family and friends as we are confident the hotel would not let us down. For people wanting to stay in Pissouri the Pissouriana is a good place to reside but as it offers limited self catering facilities you will probably need to eat out and this should be considered when booking.
