A lot has changed since those early days though. Now cable and DSL are widespread and affordable and most people in major metropolitan areas can sign up for them. Yet, there are people out there that continue to use dial-up. The only logical explanation for this is that those people still don't have access to wired broadband options. Ultimately, cable and DSL companies won't expand into an area where they don't think they'll make money.

Fortunately, you can now sign up for satellite internet pretty much no matter where you live. No phone line or other infrastructure will be required. It's a self-contained system where all you'll need is a satellite dish, which will come with your packaged deal. Once the technician comes over and installs it for you, the connection will be ready to perform at broadband speeds. If all you've ever used is dial-up, you're going to be in for a big surprise after you make the switch. All of a sudden, your favorite web sites will load almost instantly. Also, file downloads will take significantly less time. More importantly though, web sites and applications that were too sophisticated for dial-up will not be a problem for satellite internet.

Of course, if you want to pay the absolute lowest price for internet and get what you pay for, then dial-up might still be your connection of choice. If you're ready to pay a little more and upgrade to something much better, satellite internet will be waiting.
