Out and About in North Norfolk

Staying at home for holidays has been a popular choice this year

, with North Norfolk Hotels among those places that have welcomed extra visitors. We all know the reasons behind this uplift in "staycations", what with the volcanic ash at the beginning of the year, the hassle of the BA strikes, and the current cost of the euro against the pound. All these have made holidaymakers reluctant to venture overseas, but there has been an upside, and that is that accommodation across the country, including North Norfolk Hotels, has seen an increase in visitor numbers.

Those taking weekend breaks in Norfolk will find that this area has plenty to offer them, just as it has all sorts to offer families spending their traditional two-weeks in the sun. Of course, the downside of holidaying here in Britain is that we can't guarantee good weather, but what North Norfolk does have to offer is a warm welcome and plenty to see and do.

For those interested in historic houses, there are some fantastic National Trust properties to explore, from Oxburgh Hall in the west of the county via Blickling Hall near Norwich, through to Felbrigg Hall in the east. And then there is the lovely Sheringham Park, designed in the early 19th century by Humphry Repton and famous for its springtime rhododendrons and azaleas, as well as the royal seat of Sandringham, known worldwide for its annual Flower Show.

And if parks and houses are not your thing, this stretch of coastline has much more to offer, too, from the kiss-me-quick attractions of Cromer (the long beach, fish and chip shops and end of the pier show), to the well-heeled cafes, shops and eateries of Wells, Holkham and Holt.

The beaches in this part of the world are diverse, with popular sandy stretches at Mundesley, Sheringham and Wells, and a wilder, vast expanse of sand dunes at Holkham. Holkham Hall is also well worth a visit, not only for the hall and grounds, but also for the pottery, popular pub and its Adnams cookshop. Meanwhile, in Wells there are all sorts of family attractions, from a little train that runs from the beach to the quayside, to a large playground and a selection of slot machines. Meanwhile, for those who like to get out and about, there is also a cycle track from Wells to Holkham (it starts by the lake behind the beach) and there are plenty of lovely walks to be had here, too.

In fact, this county is ideal for a few days away, and if you are planning to check out the North Norfolk hotels, you will definitely be in for a treat.
