Outdoor Tv At Wimbledon Beamed To Large Screens

Perhaps the most famous tennis tournament in the world

, Wimbledon is one of the major sporting events of the year - and outdoor digital signage plays it part in bringing the Grandslam matches to you.

For decades at big sporting events like Wimbledon the action has been beamed to large screens. Either pitch-side, above the players or outside to keep the fans without tickets amused - large screens are now part and parcel of our sporting events.

In fact, it is estimated that more people will view this year's Wimbledon on the large screens in front of the ground (previously Henman Hill, now known as Murray Mound after the two British tennis players) than will courtside.

Traditionally the medium that has always been chosen for such large outdoor screen displays has been LEDs. LED screens have several advantages: they are cheap, easy to make large, low cost to run, and use low maintenance LED bulbs.

However, anyone who has ever watched a big game quite close-up on a large LED screen will recognise the problems. The huge LED bulbs that make up the picture create an image hardly indicative of modern LCD, plasma and HD technologies.

However, increasingly large plasma and LCD screens are able to now do the task of these big screen LED displays. Technically speaking, these pitch-side LCDs are a collection of smaller outdoor digital signage screens - but the effect is the same as one giant screen.

The benefit of this method is that you can even supply HD coverage of the games as the Dallas Cowboys have done with their giant screen above their pitch.

And outdoor LCDs are not just keeping those at the game entertained. More and more bars, pubs and restaurants are investing in outdoor TVs or outdoor TV enclosures to allow their customers to watch the big sporting events outside.
