Outlook Web Access: How It Works
OWA is the abbreviation for Outlook Web Access
. Earlier known as Exchange Web Connect (EWC), it is a part of Microsoft Exchange Server. We will take a brief look at what OWA is.
Uses of OWA
You can use the Outlook Web Access to access emails, contacts, mailbox and tasks, even when there you don't have access to Microsoft Outlook Desktop application. Microsoft provides OWA as part of Exchange Server and gives users the opportunity to connect to a remote web browser.
The process of Outlook Web Access
The following things happen when a person opens the message in the Microsoft Exchange server Mailboxes.
* An OWA browser sends a request to the OWA server and the Microsoft Internet Information server. This request consists of a cookie, which recognizes the user and the browser. The Internet Information server or the IIS, after accepting the request for reprocessing, sends it to the Active service Pages, commonly known as ASP.
* The ASP then checks whether the cookie is pointing to a sound ASP session and confirms the proper login of the user. The filter of the ISAPI then estimates which language to use to display the message in the browser.
* Once done, the ASP then executes any server-side Microsoft Virtual Basic it possesses based on the script named in the URL. The CDO rendering library then converts the message into HTML and then it is sent to the browser by IIS and then the browser interprets the HTML.
Benefits of using Outlook Web access
One of the major benefits of OWA is that there is no need to use a Phonebook; all you have to do is to search a name and to send a message simply across the email program. Furthermore, with the new OWA you can do this all at one go. The OWA also has a daily planner and a calendar in which you can store your notes and appointments. If you are out on a holiday, then the OWA with its 'Out of Assistant' will send all the mails on your behalf.
Through Appointment Scheduler, an innovative function of the OWA, you can even send out invitations to functions or meetings. If the receiver shows willingness to attend the function or meet, then the OWA, on its own will add the meeting place and time to the OWA calendar. Not only this, the OWA will also give regular updates as the meet or appointment comes near.
To sum up, with the above benefits, we can add that OWA provides easy and quick methods of enhancing your company's entire e-mail system, if configured properly. You will get a secure and solid method to access your remote emails.
