Outsourcing Tip: Know Your Virtual Assistant

When you are hiring staff you generally go through an interview process with the

applicant and you get to ask them questions about their capabilities as a worker. The other thing that you will have hold of is their CVA or their resume where all their experiences are listed. They will have a letter or two recommending them to the potential employer and last, you will get to test out their credibility through a trial period.

This is the same thing when you are thinking about outsourcing your work to overseas freelancers otherwise known as the virtual assistant. The difference is that you do not get to meet them face to face; neither do you get to talk to them, unless you require that they have applications like Skype, YM or MSN. In short, the interview is done through email and messenger applications. All text based, never eye balling each other.

So how do you get to interview or get to know your potential assistant? Simple, when posting a job, make sure that you already list down the requirements for the applicants. Second, make sure that when the applicant is available, you get to talk' to each other using the different messenger applications. And third, make ready a test that they could fulfill. This way it is clear on who gets filtered out and who stays in.

Those who pass the first phase of the interview will have to prove themselves by sending samples of their work which you can go over. Some will give you work of others and this you will never know, the only way to filter through these is to give them an instant test. Example, if you want work like article writing, then on the messenger apparatus, ask them to type in their article of so many words after you give them a keyword to use.

Once they pass this crucial test, then you can now try out their skills on a larger scale article. Send them a trial keyword with specific instructions on how it is to be written. Send links to base their articles on. And without their knowing it, scan their articles through software which will determine if there is plagiarism or not.

Once you have gone through these, you already have gotten to know your VA better, and hopefully the relationship will flourish after the trial period is over. Never, ever just hire out of nowhere. Always go for trusted companies and resources. The preferred route to take is to hire VA agencies. They have better infrastructure and better management in place. They often have teams so you can be sure that you will always have someone ready to assist you.
