Outstanding Facts About Jellyfish

One cannot help but be simply interested in jellyfish

, one of the mysteries of the deep seas. Many have heard of an immortal jellyfish that has literally cheated death hence its name. Their physical attributes are some of the simplest yet remarkable ones of all living organisms. One can get jellyfish tanks and keep this fascinating being as a pet at home, as long as you know some facts about the jellyfish.

It is a great fact that there are about 200 jellyfish species. Examples of jellyfish species include Blue Jellies, Lion's Mane Jellyfish which is the largest of them, Sea Nettles, Moon Jellies and many others. A true jellyfish can be found in salt and fresh water while those that are not actual jellyfish can only survive in fresh water like the Craspedacusta Sowerbii. Jellyfish have been on earth for over 650 million years, longer than the now extinct dinosaurs.

The body of a jellyfish is quite fascinating. To begin with, it is 95% water and has no brain or blood and it is moved using jet propulsion movements that they make while in water. They have 2 small dots when it comes to jellyfish eyes that are photosensitive. They also have one small opening that acts as a mouth. When taken out of their habitat, they simply collapse and die. Unlike other sea animals, you cannot tell they have a problem through their jellyfish eyes.

When having a jellyfish as a pet you must have the best water and place it in the best jellyfish tanks. That water can never be 2 degrees above or below the usual 77 degrees. Jellyfish eyes are known to be quite sensitive to bright light so keeping the jellyfish tanks in a shaded place is probably best. Make sure the water is fresh or salty as required by the species you have. If the water is not suitable, the jellyfish begin to swim slowly.

There are times that a water bubble can enter the jellyfish body. You can simply turn it upside down gently to let it pass through. When jellyfish become hungry, their jellyfish eyes and body usually shrinks in size. There are times the water becomes murky and this is because you may have put too much food, so do it in moderation. You must keep the jellyfish tanks and water clean and in moderate temperatures at all times for the jellyfish's life.
