Overcoming Harsh Weather Conditions Requires The Proper Clothing

Proper clothing is fundamental in carrying out effective cold weather military special operations

. To cope with the extreme cold weather and avoid any illness and disease sometimes associated with the coldness, military soldiers are obliged to equip themselves with proper clothing for protection. To stay fit is a practical concern because there is a great chance for the success of military operations if the soldiers are able to overcome the battle against nature.

To shield soldiers from the attack of coldness, the proper type of clothing must be worn. The initial impression is to wear thick clothing made from cotton or polyester, but this is not the best option, because next to skin is unable to wick perspiration away from the skin unless the material is specially treated. As a consequence, cotton turns sweat into moisture and coldness, which eventually contributes to the loss of body heat. Hence, instead of wearing thick cotton clothes, soldiers should dress in layers. The idea is that thin garments worn in layers trap the heat inside the body. More than that, it is very flexible to adjust since they only need to add more layers if needed or reduce and remove layers if it is too much.

Military clothes and combat jackets should be made from wool or nylon, which are cold resistant. In wet and cold conditions, soldiers are advised to wear a 50 percent nylon full sleeve undergarments which serve as the base layer. The intermediate layer is composed of a wool shirt, which provides a superior insulation against the cold and is covered with a nylon wind resistant coat, which serves as the outer layer garment.

The base layer clothing is loosely fit to allow necessary circulation and ventilation. The trouser has an extra closure and adjustment that provides ventilation and is made of wind resistant sateen. The coat is a compatible match to seal the outer layer from cold weather due to its combination closures. The sleeves are specially designed with adjustable cuffs and has a lightweight hood which could be secured and concealed under the collar when not in use. In addition, the coat provides a detachable liner, which is extremely light and warm.

For feet covering, wool socks can be worn together with cold weather insulated combat boots. To protect hands from chilly temperatures, leather made glove shells may be worn. For headgear, aside from the attached hood of the coat, a winter covering or a hood is also worn over the steel helmet to cover the head, face and neck. It uses a one touch fastener with a malleable wire inside the fur ruff preferred visibility and head protection.

These are the basic garments and clothes soldiers wear for special cold weather operations.
