Overcoming Some Skiing Challenges
It can be incredibly daunting, stepping out onto the ski slopes
. Skiingis one of those wonderful sports that can cater to any level of ability, whether youre still a beginner, or used to regularly going off-pisteand making death-defying leaps as a matter of course. It can seemimpossible, though, when youre just starting out, to believe youllever get anywhere on two skisespecially when during the first fewdays of instruction, youll be toppling over more often than not whenyou try to move anywhere! One of the greatest hurdles when youre askier stepping out of your Verbier ski chalet, whatever your level ofability, is overcoming the mental barriers that can impede yourprogress.
Beginning
It is intimidating beginning a beginner skier, especially if youre partof a group of friends or family, and have a few expert skiers amongyour number. It can be frustrating when youre still trying to masterbasic movements and techniques, and the rest of your group are allhurtling off down the slopeand waiting for you at the bottom to getback to their Verbier ski chalet. Its important to remember thattheyve all been nervous at the top of a slope and wondering what to doas wellno-one is born a brilliant skier. Its a learned skill, and itdoes take practice. For every expert performing incredible turns, therewas once a nervous young beginner standing in their place.
Practice
Practice is important if youre hoping to master the basics of skiing, and it can be a fun process, despite the nerves you have when you comeup to a dip or a turn you might not be quite confident with yet! Themain hurdle for most people during practice is repetition. It can becomequite boring, when you feel a little too unsure of yourself to attempttrickier pistes and runs, but more used to the easier pistes youvepracticed on. One method of overcoming boredom is to trust yourinstincts when it comes to what you can or cant handle while skiing but remember that the thrill of overcoming a challenge is probably areason you stepped out of that Verbier ski chalet and began to learn inthe first place. One thing to note is that the boredom of repetitionisnt limited to beginners, but skiers of all abilities. In order tokeep growing and improving at the sportor even to keep enjoying it its important to find new challenges.
Mastery
Likewise, the feeling when you finally achieve those goals can be moreof a problem than first imagined. With no challenges left to motivateyou as you approach a level of ability youre happy with and comfortableat, sometimes skiers can experience a lack of the enthusiasm they onceheld. How to overcome this and keep on bounding out of your warm bed andheading out of your Verbier ski chalet to the slopes? Sometimes, thesolution is to simply relax and enjoy the sensation of skiing, andsometimes the solution is to take a break and recharge, and giveyourself the opportunity to miss the sport. There is no perfectsolution, and there are as many answers as there are skiers in theworld!
