It is also prescribed that the crane operator should be of sufficient height to operate all the controls and be clearly able to see over the controls into the work area.

Effective coordination between hands, eyes, and feet are also required. The operator should not be effected by problems like convulsive disorders and even unconsciousness episodes. The crane operator should also be clearly able to understand signs, labels, and instructions. According to the regulations, crane operators are required to be examined for these regulations at least once every three years.

Operators are also issued permits, as they are required to be trained and tested before they can operate an overhead crane. Operators are required to pass a test and meet other requirements that includes demonstrating proficiency in operating the crane. Each operator requires to carry the permit or it should be also available on request. Crane operators are generally trained in various areas such as daily checks, equipment capacity, use of controls, start-up and shut down procedures, signaling procedures, maximum rated capacity, and other applicable standards.
