. Approximately 4 million passengers travel through Durban International on a yearly basis.

Several airlines come and take off from the Durban International. Even though Durban is a popular South Africa?s tourist destination, it is also called the Convention City, because it hosts several International Conventions all the year round.

If you are a subtropical weather and beaches lover, then you must make Durban your next holiday destination. You can enjoy your vacation by lazing on the immaculate stretches of powdery and soft sand beaches. You can also enjoy activities like surfing, sailing, body boarding, and scuba diving, in the friendly waters of Indian Ocean. There are lifeguards who ensure your safety, and if you want more privacy then you can head to the more secluded beaches.

Beaches are not the only attraction for visitors. Visit the Botanical Gardens and you will see an impressive collection of indigenous trees, orchids, cycads and a unique garden specially designed for the visually-impaired.


SeaWorld is the place for children, where they can enjoy watching dolphin and seal shows. Children can also enjoy seeing the far-fetched species of birds at Umgeni River Bird Park; and variety of the animals at Mitchell Park Zoo. Fitzsimons Snake Park is famous for its snake demonstrations. You must take your kids to the uShaka Marine World, the largest theme park in South Africa. It has a large aquarium, several water rides, and dolphins which interact.

If you are interested in architecture, do take a look at the Durban City Hall. A Modern Renaissance building, it houses the Durban Art Gallery and the Natural Science Museum. Take a guided tour around Muckleneuk, a wonderful and beautiful building containing the Killie Campbell Africana Library, the Mashu Museum of Ethnology and the William Campbell Furniture Museum. The Jumma Mosque, the biggest in the region, is worth seeing. There are a host of other museums, art galleries and art centres you may want to look up as well.

You can enjoy strolling along the Golden Mile located at the Durban Beach Front. This stretch of land is packed with several pools, gardens, an amusement park, and cable car rides offering shoreline views. The Wilson's Wharf located nearby offers fantastic views of the harbour. It also offers an exciting background for many shops and shows.

Yearning for the water? Take a deep sea cruise from the Sarie Marais Jetty or charter a craft for a private outing. The North Pier is a good spot for fishing or ship-watching.

Bargain hunters can drop into the pretty Amphitheatre Gardens, where there?s a flea market on the last Sunday of every month and an art market on alternate Sundays. In many shops, you will get colourful African artefacts, carvings, woodwork, ostrich eggs, leatherwork ? these make excellent souvenirs of your visit.

Other interesting sights include the Da Gama Clock, the Local History and Natal Maritime Museums, the remains of the Old Fort, Alayam Hindu Temple and the Hare Krishna Temple of Understanding, the Burman Bush Nature Reserve and the Umgeni Steam Railway.
