Overview of major MBA Entrance Exams

CAT:

The prestigious common admission test, which is conducted for admission into Indian Institutes of Management across the country, will be a computer based test like last year.

How to Register?

A candidate needs to buy only one CAT Voucher irrespective of the number of institutes he/she is applying to. The CAT voucher must be bought only in the name of the candidate as it appears in the school leaving certificate. If the name has been changed due to events such as marriage, the candidate must show the relevant document such as a marriage certificate and submit a photocopy at the time of the test, interview and at the time of joining a programme. SC and ST candidates must show a copy of their SC/ST Certificates at the time of obtaining the CAT Voucher from the Axis Bank branches.

Exam Structure: The duration of the test is 2 hours and 30 minutes including initial 15 minute tutorial. No breaks will be given during the test. The test consists of questions that evaluate a candidate's quantitative, verbal, and logical & data interpretation abilities. Therefore, there are a total of three sections in the test. There will be about 60 questions in the test.

XAT:

XLRI Jamshedpur will conduct the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT).XAT is also used by more than 60 other Management Institutes for admission.

How to Register?

In order to register online for XAT, the candidate has to visit the website and register. The information to be provided includes the nearest Axis Bank branch name from where he/she intends to buy the XAT Bulletin 2010, personal details, educational details, work experience etc. After successful submission of the form, the candidate will immediately get his/her XAT ID and password (which is automatically generated by the system). XAT ID and password needs to be retained by the candidate for future correspondence with XAT Office. XAT Bulletin & XLRI Prospectus can be obtained from 120 Branches of Axis Bank or from the XAT Office / Admissions Office, XLRI, Circuit House Area (East), Jamshedpur, 831001.

Exam Structure: XAT exam is of 140 minutes and consists of 200 objective type questions and an essay of 250-300 words. Objective questions are asked from the following sections:

English-80 questions Reasoning and Quantitative Ability-60 questions and General Awareness-60 questions.

All these sections are allotted a time of 40 minutes each. For every correct answer a candidates gets 1 mark and 1/3 marks is deducted for an incorrect answer. In the remaining 20 minutes candidates are supposed to write an essay of 250-300 words on a given topic.

SNAP:

Symbiosis National Aptitude (SNAP) Test is a common written test for the admission to all the Post-Graduate Institutes of Symbiosis International (Deemed University). Written test is a mandatory for admission into any Post-Graduate programme offered by the constituent institute of Symbiosis International (Deemed University). However, it is only the first step. In addition, a candidate has to undergo the selection process of the desired Institute to qualify for the admission to the Post-Graduate programme of that Institute.

How to Register?

The Candidate is required to upload a latest scanned photograph of own at the time of online registration. This will generate your SNAP ID. For different modes of payment different Payment Advice' formats are created. Choose a payment mode and print a Payment Advice' form online. Pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 1550/- according to the payment mode.

Exam structure: SNAP Test duration is 120 minutes. SNAP Test is an objective test. Each question has 4 responses. Candidate should choose an appropriate response. Each wrong answer attracts 25% negative marks.

FMS:

FMS is one of the premier management institutions under the university system in India which conducts its own Entrance Tests for its highly-rated management programmes. These tests are designed to examine the skill and aptitude of an applicant for the Management Courses taught at FMS, University of Delhi.

How to Register?

Applicants can register themselves for the test through FMS website by filling up online registration forms and by paying requisite fee of Rs 750/- (Rs 200/- for SC/ST category) for each programme. A candidate may apply for one or more programmes. Completed forms should be sent to the administrative officer, Faculty of Management Studies, university of Delhi, Delhi-110007

Exam Structure: The pattern of the exam includes Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation, Analytical Reasoning, Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension; all these are covered in about 175 questions.

IBSAT:

IBSAT is an aptitude test conducted by the Federation of Universities (FedUni), for students seeking admission into the management programs.

How to Register?

Applicants are required to fill up the OMR Application Form enclosed and send it to the Admissions Officer, IBSAT Office. Or Applicants can apply online by filling up the Application Form available at website and make payment of Rs.1,200 towards the cost using Credit/Debit Card (Visa/ MasterCard/ Citibank Card) through secure internet payment Gateway. Applicants applying through online should attach their scanned color photograph along with the Online Application.

The IBSAT Application Material will be sent to such applicants.

Exam Structure:

IBSAT consists of multiple choice questions. IBSAT is for 2 hours duration and is aimed to test the applicant's ability in quantitative techniques, data interpretation, data adequacy, vocabulary, analytical reasoning and reading comprehension.

Important dates:

Last date for receipt of completed OMR Application Form is : 8 December, 2010 (Wednesday)

JMET:

JMET is the first step in the process of seeking admission to the Post-Graduate Programmes in Management offered by IISc and the IITs for the academic year.

How to register?

JMET 2011 Application Form has to be submitted ONLINE. ONLINE submission of application can be done by accessing the website of any of the IITs or IISc.The application fee is Rs.350/- for SC/ST/PD candidates and Rs. 750/- for all other candidates. After applying ONLINE, there are some documents that you will have to post to the "Chairman, GATE Office, IISc Bangalore-560012".

Exam Structure:

Candidates will be required to appear in a single paper of three hours duration. The examination will be held from 10:00 hrs to 13:00 hrs on Sunday, December 12, 2010.The question paper will be in english only.

IIFT:

IIFT scores high ranking among the top management institutes of India. Therefore every year a large number of management aspirants apply for IIFT.

How to Register?

Application for IIFT is also available through online method. The payment for application can either be made through VISA/Master Credit Card or Demand Draft. A demand draft of Rs. 1500 favoring Indian Institute of Foreign Trade payable at Delhi has to be made by the candidates who do not have a credit card.After filling the details candidates are required to send the print out of the form along with the specified documents and demand draft to IIFT.IIFT registration is over.

Exam Structure: The entrance examination will be of 2 hours having objective questions from the following sections:

1. English Comprehension.

2. Logical Reasoning.

3. Quantitative Analysis.

4. General Knowledge & Awareness.


The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their scores in the entrance examination. The shortlisted candidates will be called at a later stage for Group Discussion, Interview and Essay Writing for final selection.
