Oxygen Supply - Things To Consider About Oxygen Supply Tools

We all know that we require a proper oxygen supply to continue breathing and living

. Oxygen needs to be able to enter our lungs properly or we could suffocate. Our body knows how to increase oxygen intake on its own in general circumstances. A runner will automatically start breathing faster to get more oxygen. The lungs expand and the heart beats faster to pump oxygen through the body to fuel tissues. Oxygen delivery methods over the years have come to include systems in submarines, spaceflight, scuba diving and flying in planes.

One component of oxygen supply delivery is the oxygen mask. Anyone who flies on commercial aircraft is aware of the oxygen mask that is supposed to pop down during an emergency to assist passengers' breathing. A flight attendant always demonstrates how to pull the mask down and place it over your head. Getting proper oxygen in the event of an emergency is so important that attendants recommend for adults to put their masks on first so they can then help children or older or disabled people get their masks on. At first, some people don't understand why they should put their masks on first. It makes sense when they realize they could pass out from lack of oxygen while trying to help someone else so they should put theirs on first.

Some elderly or sick people need a portable oxygen supply system. If you've ever had a relative with emphysema, you may be familiar with portable systems or need to learn about them. There are a variety of systems available to those who need them. You can find out by researching or talking to your doctor or supplier about which system is best for you or your relative. If your relative is wheelchair-bound, you'll want to understand if the system can be attached to the chair itself or must be rolled along with the chair. It's also good to practice putting on the oxygen mask or tube with your relative so you can assist when necessary.

When you receive your oxygen mask, make sure you know how to adjust it for comfort. It should not have to be so tight on the face that it causes additional pain or leaves deep, red, long-lasting marks on the face. You will also want to know how to clean and store a mask or tube and how often it should be serviced or replaced. A good medical supplier will be able to assist you with these questions with regard to your oxygen supply.
