PMT or PMS really used to ruin my life
Hi, as i said in the early years i used to be controlled by my pmt, it was awful to think i had 1 good wk out of every month. After discussing this with my doctor-got told there was no such thing(male doctor).
In the end i learnt to live with it, getting used to certain days when i would shout, shout, shout be so impatient and feel like my head was full of smoke-could nt think straight, get paranoid, constantly moan etc etc.................. Yet on my good days i was the person i was happy with, happy, smiley, patient and content. When i reached 40, i went to the doctors (a different doctor) told him how i was very forgetful, anxious(not even trusting my husband to take the girls out incase there was an accident).....................
He suggested i go on a course of tablets CITALAPRAM, AT FIRST THEY MADE ME VERY SLEEPY BUT AFTER I GOT USED TO THEM, I FELT I HAD GOT MY LIFE BACK. It does say on the pack there an anti depressant and for mood swings and anxiousness, which did bother me. but believe me im so level headed now, happy, patient, content and calm :) i love it, my husband is one of the easiest going men iv ever met, (im even more chilled than him)!!!
the doctor says some people stay on these longterm, i must say tho im only on 10mg and i actually only have half a tablet a day, but thats what suits me................
Many women go through many physical and emotional changes just before and during their period. These symptoms, which usually begin 7-14 days prior to a period are known as either Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS) or Pre-Menstrual Tension (PMT). PMS is very common, approximately 1 in 3 women suffer mild or severe symptoms each menstrual cycle.
What is the menstrual cycle?
The menstrual cycle varies in every female. The majority of women have cycles that last 25 - 35 days, though having a slightly shorter or longer cycle is still quite normal. Every month, it is quite common for your cycle to vary by a couple of days. To calculate the length of your cycle you count the first day you begin bleeding as day one, then the last day you count is the day before your next period starts.
What are the symptoms of P.M.S.?
All women are different and some women may suffer many painful symptoms, while others have such minor symptoms that they do not create a problem and might even go unnoticed. Some of the symptoms you may experience with PMS could include one or a few of the following:
Tender swollen breasts.
Headaches.
Stomach cramps.
Feeling irritable.
Stomach bloating.
Backache.
Feelings of aggresion.
Acne outbreaks.
Fluid retention.
Weight gain.
Mood swings and depression.
Clumsiness
Tiredness.
Tearfulness.
Food cravings.
These symptoms tend to disappear or greatly improve once the bleeding actually starts. To be sure that PMS is the cause of your symptoms, you should keep a record over a 3 month period of your symptoms, what they are and when they occur. If there is a pattern to your symptoms e.g. they happen around the middle of your menstrual cycle, then PMS is the likely diagnosis. You can use this record to show your doctor.
