So what actually is the YLOD (Yellow Light Of Death)

? On the front of the PS3 when you turn it on you will see a yellow flashing light that also turns red. Most people try and press the button to reboot but this has no effect. If this happens to your console dont worry , you can fix it.

Game enthusiasts are now turning to the internet to find fast, convenient, and affordable fixes for the Ps3 yellow light issue. Yellow Light Of Death can be many things so the first step is to determine what could be causing it internally

Overheating is normally the main cause of the unit showing the YLOD. If you had noticed that your PS3 feels very hot to touch before the YSOD then it will be the case. Fixing this is very simple and you can get up and running in no time.

For future reference, the PS3 console needs adequate ventilation to prevent overheating, or at least make it less likely to happen. Many users place their console down flat on the ground or up against a wall, which blocks off the fan vent which is designed to cool the system down. Other users do not realize that they need to clean off dust so it doesn't collect in the vent and excessive dust can also lead to overheating as it blocks the free flow of air in and out of the unit.

If you have corrected the air flow problem and you still have a problem then you can try these next few steps:

Turn off the system completely, unplug from the socket and wait for around 30 minutes for the system to cool down.

Take out the hard drive, remove any dust and put it back in.

Inspect each of the wires to every connection to ensure they are all seated properly.

Get a vacuum cleaner and clean away all the dust that may have collected inside the unit, especially under the circuit board.

If your friend has a PS3 ask to borrow their hard drive and see if the YLOD still happens, if it goes out it looks like you have a faulty hard drive which can be replaced. In most cases, there will be more substantial damage internally which will require you to either send the console in to Sony or learn how to fix the Playstation 3 yellow light blinking problem on your own.

Completing these steps on your own will be a lot less expensive so I do suggest looking around for more in depth guides. There are some great video instruction fixes around the web that will take you less than 50 minutes to fix the problem.

I would only pay to ship back to Sony if the warranty was still intact and you have tried to fix the YLOD by the steps above already. Otherwise, you can do it cheaper and much, much faster by using a good online program with video instruction.
