Packaging Cargo That Is Going Across The Canada Us Border

When you're shipping a package from the US to Canada

, there are a number of things that you're going to have to worry about. First, you need to make sure that you've paid all of the requisite fees and surcharges that apply when you're shipping to another country. Next, you're going to need to contend with all of the documentation and paperwork that you need to prepare in order to ship internationally. A final thought should be taken to the actual approach that you take to packaging a shipment if it's going across an international border.

Many may wonder why you would even worry about packing something differently just because it's shipping across any kind of international border. The reason for this is because a package that has to clear customs is going to be subjected, in most cases, to some additional stresses that aren't something that you have to worry about when you're shipping within your own country.

The first thing you need to do is assume that your package is going to be opened, and pack accordingly. While certainly not all packages will be opened completely when going across a border, a number of them will. What you don't want to do is expect that yours will be the one that won't get looked at and then fail to pack accordingly and have it opened. Always assume that your package will be opened, and make sure that it will be easy to see what is inside, and easy to repack the package should customs have some reason to need to examine your goods closely.

Another good idea is to always include duplicate copies of as much documentation as possible inside the package, especially the invoice and the shipping label. This is important, because sometimes when opening a package the documentation on the box may become compromised. If there is a duplicate copy on the inside, they can usually help make sure that your delivery is still completed successfully.

When shipping breakable goods across a border, make sure they are packed in such a way so that they won't just fall out of the box when it is opened by the border agents. Otherwise you may find that your goods get broken if they happen to accidently fall when the package is being investigated. Wrapping the goods individually is one helpful way to avoid damage should the item itself fall from the package.
