Pain In Calf Muscle

So you have been experiencing calf pain and you are wondering why it is happening and what to do about it

. Typically, the most common calf pain injury is a pulled calf muscle which causes tiny tears in the muscle fibers. When you overextend your calf muscle beyond its stretching ability, tearing can occur and cause pain.Train your calves every other day for 3 - 4 times per week. However, don't train them when they're very sore with Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS). Let them recover first.

Your calf muscles are different from your other muscles. The calf muscles are dense, highly fatigue resistant and must be trained in a specific manner to achieve results. The calf muscles also recover very quickly after each set and workout. They are hard to overtrain. Optimal treatment for the tight calf muscles cannot be isolated to just treating the calf muscles symptomatically. The treatment must include treating the root cause of the tightness which is spinal nerve root problems primarily at the L5 and S1 levels.

To pamper your feet treat them to a cooling massage. Fill a twelve ounce bottle with water and freeze it. Place the frozen water bottle on the floor and your foot on top of the bottle. Using moderate pressure roll your foot back and forth on it. Check your electrolytes. Your electrolytes send the messages to your muscle. If they are not at a normal level, they may not function properly. Because they are your messenger to your muscles, your muscles might not function at it's full potential too. This can also be a risk factor for muscle cramps.

This calf exercise is done with the knees straight, stressing the gastrocnemius more than the soleus, which has to be exercised with the knees bent to avoid the gastroc taking much of the strain. Gyms often provide a seated calf machine as well as standing ones to allow for these two muscles which need to be exercised separately for full effect. To treat cramps stop the activity in which the cramp occurred and massage the calf muscle keeping the muscle stretched until the pain disappears. Performing adequate stretching before workouts is a good Idea. Stretching will, increases flexibility of the calves and helps to avoid cramps and injury.

However with regular practice, yoga can reduce both the pain and the number of flare-ups. For calf soreness, a qualified yoga instructor can suggest specific postures and movements that will relieve sciatica pain and promote long term relief.
