Paint brushes have been around for hundreds of years

. In this time they have had many important variations of style, but the basic principle behind them has always stayed the same, to apply colour (through the use of paint) to something else.

Without paint brushes we would never have the magnificent artworks that we see around the world. Galleries would not be full of glorious landscapes from Constable; we would not have the surrealist works of Dali. The Mona Lisa would have only existed in Leonardo Da Vincis mind. The importance of the simple paint brush in the art world simply cant be measured.

Whilst most of us can only ever dream of creating something good enough to be displayed in the Tate, we do tend to have another use for paint brushes, DIY. Paint brushes are a simple way of applying colour to anything. Whilst paint rollers may have made it quicker and easier to apply paint to large areas, paint brushes still have their place in terms of applying colour in a more detailed way. One example of this would be edging, its practically impossible to paint accurately to the edge of a wall only using a roller; a paint brush gives you finer control and allows you to fully paint to any edge without imposing on the next surface. Another example of where a paint brush would be used is for window frames. Window frames tend to not be just one smooth surface; they tend to be ridged and detailed, this means that only a paint brush can truly give a professional finish.

For most painting jobs, its generally a good idea to have a mixture of paint brushes and paint rollers, such as those available from us at Trade 1st. Using rollers for large areas, and paint brushes for finishing, should give you a perfect painting solution.
