Paintball Masks Provide Necessary Protection

The popularity of the sport has pushed the technology of the gear to new heights

. Paintball guns, often called paintball markers, are incredibly accurate these days and fire at high velocity rates. Since paintballs can travel at speeds close to 300 miles per hour, safety is a serious concern. While some players may believe the paintball guns are the most important piece of equipment, veteran players know the masks are the most vital accessory you own.

When selecting a mask, it is best to try it on, if possible. People have different shaped heads, and simply because a mask gets excellent reviews does not mean it was designed for everyone. The fit should be snug and the padding comfortable. Players run, jump, dive and shoot with their masks on. A good fit is important. Another aspect to consider is a thermal lens. Panting from sprinting or charging up a hill can result in fogged visuals. Thermal lenses have two lenses with a pocket of air in between to prevent fogging. Face shields and visors are critical pieces of the mask as well. Visors help keep the elements out of the eyes, while the shield guards the face. When trying on masks, do not forget about the ears. Make sure they are completely covered, but also make sure it is possible to hear. A common test is to rub the fingers together near the mask. If one cannot hear the sound, then choose another mask.

They do not. Many leagues require a specific standard of safety for paintball masks before the players can enter the field and with good reason. A sprained ankle requires ice and some rest but eye injuries can be permanent. Whether someone is a serious player or a weekend warrior, making sure the mask properly protects them should be their top concern.
