Contemporary artist Sarah-Jane Szikora has started using different art materials to sculpt versions of her paintings.The north-east painter announced that she has begun the process of turning some of her most famous work including Smartypants, Smarties and Rude Food into modern sculptures.Szikora's paintings usually contain cheeky confectionary characters such as a gingerbread man wearing trousers made from Smarties and gingerbread women partaking in pole dancing.The painter said that she is enjoying using diverse art materials and said that the sculptures would be ready for exhibiting once the finishing touches like adding the appropriate colours had been completed.She said on her official blog: "It has been a lovely change working with a different media. I'm also getting some smashing days out travelling back and forth to the Scottish Borders where we are moulding and casting the pieces."Szikora is no stranger to working with different mediums as she has previously produced a giftware collection for Royal Worcester including cutlery such as mugs, cups, saucers and vases.It is hoped that Szikora's foray into sculpture will encourage her fans and other aspiring artists to experiment with a wider range of diverse art materials than they are typically used to.Creating sculptures can take a lot of skill as well as the knowledge and ability to use a wide range of mediums like wood or clay, which can be utilised to produce carvings that form a desirable shape.
