Indian paintings have evolved in course of time

. Each style of painting is different from other and has emerged as a creative output of several artists from different geographic locations. Each style is unique in technique and essence. Miniature paintings are paintings which are made on canvasses. These canvasses can be either paper canvas or cloth canvas. Paintings on the walls of Ajanta and Ellora caves depict aspects of Hinduism and Buddhism. The teachings of Lord Buddha are drawn on the walls of Ajanta caves while on the walls of Ellora caves Hindu deities are drawn. A relatively new form of painting is glass painting; it is a visual delight for the connoisseur's eyes owing to its vividness and clarity. The desired design is engraved on the surface of glass and then colour is filled in it. The design can be traditional or contemporary.

Marble painting is another type of painting that is done on table tops, flower pots or furniture. Western influences started making an impact in the colonial era; western ideas were used to illustrate Indian themes. There are several schools in India which provides training in the modern techniques of painting. There are many art galleries outside India which showcase the paintings of Indian artists. Some of the famous Indian painters are M.F Husain, Chhaye Ghosh, Devajyoti Roy, A Ramachandran and uncountable more. These painters have added a new dimension to the Indian paintings. Painting is an expression of thoughts and feelings. Monumental paintings are exquisite paintings which are ideal for the purpose of gifts.
