Paintless Dent Removal

When an auto dent occurs on the exterior of a car or truck

, it is best to repair it immediately in order to avoid further deterioration and to maintain the quality look and value of the vehicle. Paintless dent removal is an excellent method for such repairs. The technician must gain access to the backside of the dent. Sometimes the backside of the dent is clearly accessible, but sometimes interior panels and/or thermal and sound insulation needs to be removed in order to gain access. The technician utilizes special tools which look like plastic-tipped punches. Using these tools the technician pushes firmly but slowly on the center of the dent, which will flatten out the surface such that it blends with the surrounding surface. In many cases the exterior paint is unaffected by this paintless dent removal method. Paint has a certain level of flexibility which allowed it to flex in when the dent was made and to flex right back out after the dent is removed. There is no cracking or chipping of the paint. If the paint's appearance is slightly affected by the dent removal process, the technician simply lightly wet-sands the area and buffs the clearcoat back to a shine which matches the pre-existing finish. Paintless dent removal methods are very time-effective and are relatively inexpensive for the car owner. The car's appearance is improved and its re-sale value retained or increased. The technician can often perform the repairs quickly and inexpensively, typically as the car owner simply waits, or it can even be done in the car owner's driveway. There is very little, if any, paint to apply or cure and body filler is not required, eliminating the need for curing and sanding. The traditional dent repair process performed by a body shop is much more time-consuming and expensive, since it includes the application of various plastic body fillers and requires re-painting the damaged area to match and blend with the existing paint and finish.
