Pakistan Army Exercises
Exercise Azm-e-Nau 3 is continuing with professional zeal and commitment. Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaque Pervez Kayani himself monitoring the war games.
Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on second and third day of the war games visited Bahawalpur and Multan to inspect the exercise. The Army Chief was accompanied by Commander Southern Command Lt Gen Khalid Shamim Wyne and Corps Commander Bahawalpur Lt. Gen. Naeem Khalid Lodhi. COAS highly acclaimed the standard of the military exercises. He appreciated the professional expertise and proficiencies of army personnel and army officers stressing our troops are capable of defending every inch of the country tooth and nail.

Share: What inspired me the most was the title of the exercise namely 'Azme Nau'. Yes, I think this is what is needed again and again as without high spirits and belief in one's destiny, no nation can survive, let alone thrive. Azm-e-Nau 3 is the biggest Military exercises in history.
It is pertinent to mention here that Army is rapidly transforming itself towards a network enabled army. Sufficient benchmarks have already been achieved and the manifestation of this capability has been projected in the on-going Exercise. In the given realm the field commander's up to the lowest tiers will have transparency of the Battle field through a meaningful employment of intelligence, surveillance and reccenosence assets i.e. UAVs, aerial imageries and early warnings. The real time availability of information about enemy will not only offset the chance of surprise against any proactive maneuvers by enemy but it will also greatly impact on the decision loop of commanders at all levels. Cumulatively it can be regarded as the first milestone towards the net centric war fighting of army.
In this exercise Pakistani Forces will practice its new concepts and doctrine to counter Indian Army's Cold Start. Reports quoting Major General Muzamil Hussain, DG, Army Training say the exercises will be focused only on conventional war on the eastern border. According to ISPR in Initial stage 20 thousand Troops will Take Part in exercise and at later stage 50 thousand troops will be involved. In this exercise all forces and their wings are taking Part. The battle situation has been generated in three operation sectors and all conventional weapons are going to be tested and practiced. According to agreement India has been informed about the military maneuvers.
The Pakistani armed forces have been engaged in a war against terror for the last eight years. The counterinsurgency operations gained momentum in the last two years. More than 80 thousand of Pakistani troops are engaged in Counter terrorism operations in FATA. Here is a question that why Pakistan Army had to start this exercise? As a matter of fact, to understand this we have to see developments on Pakistan's eastern borders and threats originating from them. Combined with the threat from extremists, our eastern neighbour has evolved a Pakistan specific new war doctrine named 'Cold Start',
On April 28th 2005, Indian army gave out its new war doctrine. Formulators of this doctrine revealed that it is specifically for Pakistan. Indian officials and analysts are quite excited about it. They are predicting that the future Indo-Pak war will be short and decisive one and will be based on info centric concept which US army demonstrated During Iraq Invasion.
The comprehensive training package in the form of the "Year of Training" in 2009-2010 has been planned in the light of the vision of the chief of army staff and now the army is all set to go in the field to validate those concepts. A special feature of this exercise will be harvesting technological achievements, advancement in intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance and communication means that have revolutionised warfare.
General Kayani has said that the military exercises would excel operational and professional skills of the armed forces. The country's largest and comprehensive military exercises "Azm-e-Nau-3 is gaining momentum with each day passing. According to spokesperson of Pakistan Army, these exercises would continue till May 15 and will be participated by the soldiers numbering more than 20,000 belonging to all arms and services.
Other supporting units including Tanks, Infantry, Artillery Guns, Anti-Aircraft, Engineers, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Signals and others are also actively taking part in the exercises. The training is methodical and progressive, culminating into Map Exercises, war-games and field exercises at various levels of command. The exercises are part of war games and all available surveillance and reconnaissance assets being practiced and utilized in the exercise to validate their efficacy. It is the main peacetime activity and will cover the entire country from Skardu in the north to the Arabian Sea in the south.
The exercise would also involve the army and naval contingents to show an integrated approach to deal with any eventuality in the time of war. PAF is a support arm for the other two services, in addition to defending the aerial frontiers of Pakistan. Undoubtedly, the regional environment is fraught with multiple threats. The military exercises are organised as paper war games that may entail heavy expenses but provide authentic lessons, thus they are dispersed over a few years.
Along with the army, Pakistan's air force is also conducting its exercise named "HIGH MARK 2010", which will be fully integrated with Army Exercises. 'High Mark 2010' comes in the backdrop of a clear threat to Pakistan, both externally and internally. This exercise has proved as a landmark development in the defense of the country as it is for the first time ever that such a feat was accomplished.

Share: During his visit to army formations conducting collective training, field firing and battle inoculation exercises, Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani appreciated the professionalism and high morale of the units involved in the exercises.
He also visited the Logistic Base in Khanewal. General Kayani has emphasized the need for enhancing professional competence through relentless training and for maintaining a high state of operational readiness at all times. As I have said that according to spokesperson of Pakistan Army.
