MIAMI, FL - The 'keep calm' catchphrase could not be more appropriate today, December 14. Panic seems to be dominating the news headlines as stocks, the euro, and precious metals all tumble and investors rush to liquidate. However, savvy investors are well aware that panicking at the first signs, or even second or third signs, of a downturn is not how the game is played. Investment, ideally, is long term, particularly in tangible assets, such as precious metals bullion, that have intrinsic value.

"Gold prices fall when investors panic, speculators decide to cut their losses and fund managers want to balance their books for the year-end and show a profit. There has been a rush to buy dollars but the United States has a massive budget deficit that is now larger than its GDP. The dollar is therefore a strange choice of safe haven and one that will ultimately fail its followers."

If inflation hits in 2012, those investors who have rushed to liquidate may well find themselves with fistfuls of relatively worthless paper. Those who have held on to their precious metals bullion, however, will have a tangible asset that has held its value. Prudent investors do not panic when the going gets tough.
