I got this today and all I can say is WOW, that photo. If you put it in Vivid mode rivals the best in the LCD. The gameplay is perfect for sporting events. I have not had many opportunities to play with toys and still have not bought the Blu Ray, who soon will be, but first impressions are good. The sound is adequate, but connected with the environment is not important. I can not wait to make my settings and see what it brings. Great value.
I checked the Samsung 550 and LG PK750 but not in this unit are shown. Amazon prices basically made for everyone.

Excellent TV
Excellent picture, easy to set up. Purchased this TV for $1,255 and it was money well spent. Thought about purchasing a Samsung, but the components of this TV are higher end.
I recommend getting HDMI cables through Amazon as well - retail prices are outrageous.
An Excellent TV, But Cannot Access the Online Content...
The Panazonic TC-P50G25 50" Plasma with Viera Cast is nearly everything I hoped it would be. The clarity, colors, sound, and most features are right on the money.
I do have a big problem, however, that is keeping me from giving this a 5 star and for the moment, preventing me from enjoying all the aspects of the TV that I had hoped for.
It has to do with Viera Cast. I chose this particular TV because I wanted to enjoy such online content as YouTube and Pandora Internet Radio. I wasn't overly pleased that I needed to purchase separately for $90 a Panasonic DY-WL10 Wireless LAN Adaptor to make this happen, but went with it.
Unfortunately, after going through the manual process for the "connection test," I received approving check mark up until the last line -- Viera Cast. There I received an X, or "Connection to the server failed -- Check communication with the Viera server."
Or, in other words, I have yet to be able to access any online content, though the TV is shown as active or connected on my network. I have FiOS and a wireless router. I have spoken to Panasonic and FiOS techs and have been bounced back and forth with no solutions to date.
If anyone who has the Panasonic adapter and used the manual method to connect to the Viera server successfully has any advice for me, I am all ears and eyes.

I own the 50G10 from 2009 but I felt I had to reply to Christians comments on fading black levels. I have now owned this HDTV for 15 months and it has been nothing but a joy. The black levels on my set have if anything gotten better. I use custom picture settings and now that the phosphers have settled in the picture quality is outstanding. I constantly browse the local Best Buy and I am confident that I made the best choice in a HDTV. Until OLED screens are mass market will I feel the need to upgrade. I will monitor the black levels, but after 15 months Christian's concerns are a non-issue with me.
