The Chinese character (Fu, means good fortune or happiness) originally had at least five meanings including longevity, prosperity, health, virtue and a well-ended life. And it has long been a tradition (since the time of Southern Sung Dynasty, actually) that Chinese post the red paper with "Fu" written on it on their door or wall to express their pursuit of good life. As time goes by, the meaning of Fu is further extended and expanded; yet, the posting tradition persists as the term never ceases to implicate being blessed and protected and having good fortune.
And that is why Panerai chooses this character to be included on the dial. For the first time, Panerai successfully blends Chinese tradition elements with its iconic design. And it also express Panerai's good wishes to every future owner of this watch.
This special watch comes with a 44mm polished stainless steel case and houses a OP II calibre- a COSC-certified hand-wound movement.
According to the official saying , the watch will be limited to 1,500 pieces with a reasonable price at $4,400. And it will be firstly released in mid August at the Panerai boutiques in Shanghai and Beijing, and then go to selected network of authorized China dealers and be available in all all Panerai boutiques in China eventually.
