It requires a soil which is loose since drainage is important, clay soils should be well aerated and mulched. Other than that the Papaver Paeoniflorum poppy is resistant to most diseases and funguses and will thrive in areas where more delicate flowers refuse to grow.

Every garden needs a Queen and the Papaver Paeoniflorum poppy fills that role well, by flowering through the late spring and early summer months and then retiring gracefully to allow other blooms the spotlight. The Papaver Paeoniflorum is an annual flower and if volunteer plants are not desired then the buds should be pinched off before seeds set, this will encourage more profuse blooming and keep the seeds from coming back the next year. These flowers are gorgeous set against a fence or as a mid row flower. They overshadow low growing flowers so their perfect spot may not be in front of the pansies.
