Park Lane: Icing on the London Cake

For any visitor to London, the piece de rsistance, icing on the cake and sweeping sumptuousness of luxurious living is embodied in Park Lane. Made famous by that sought after purple square on the Monopoly board, Park Lane is coupled with Mayfair to make a formidable and splendid partnership definitely worth a visit.

To have experienced Park Lane properly is to have had had afternoon tea in a Park Lane hotel specifically, the Podium. Part of the infamous Hilton empire, the Podium is a vision of swish wood and cream furnishings, of tall cake stands laden with delights of chocolate and cream and cups of tea with sugar aplenty.

In fact it is this April that this restaurant comes into its own taking true British tradition that one step further with the celebration of the Royal wedding. It has been hard to escape the flashes of sapphire from Kate Middleton's left hand on her royal engagement to our very own Prince William and it is sapphire that has inspired the Podium. Whilst the newlywed royal couple make their way up to the balcony of Buckingham Palace, hotel guests will be making their way through royal sapphire cupcake icing and blue "Loveberry" Curacao cocktails on the Podium of the Hilton.

It is not the only Park Lane hotels taking on the publicity from the forthcoming royal wedding with a national holiday the entire country will be rejoicing with an extended weekend, bunting and cups of tea. Britain loves a celebration and a reason to come together over alcohol, tea, scones, a good cupcake and a party hat. Parades, processions and celebrations constantly fizz across London like crackling sparklers on bonfire night and it is Park Lane that links some of the greatest attractions in London, Hyde Park corner and Marble Arch along the Eastern flank of Hyde Park.

Hyde Park runs alongside Park Lane providing the Podium and the Park Lane hotels with views to marvel at greenery, calm, autumnal colours and a veritable oasis in the vast British metropolis. A true London experience is to devour sugary treats in a Park Lane hotel, to stroll down Park Lane itself and to wander through Hyde Park to gaze at the magnificent Marble Arch. Park Lane is irrefutably the perfect path through London.
