Parking in the UK is a big issue; there isn't enough of it, it's too expensive, you can get clamped for parking in the wrong place and a whole host of other problems mean that it is stressful and often time consuming.
It's no surprise to hear that Westminster in London is the most expensive place to park in the UK, costing the average driver a massive eighteen pounds for four hours in the car park. Westminster is an affluent area that sites the Houses of Parliament amongst other influential buildings in the capital. An hour in a car park will cost you five pounds fifty. Other expensive places to park your car is Manchester and Edinburgh; neither costing you less than a tenner for parking for four hours. These cities are also large power houses for offices and are capitals for business.
In comparison, the cheapest places to park are Bradford (where a driver will expect to pay only three pounds fifty for the whole day), Belfast and Wolverhampton. These areas are still large cities but further up north and less fashionable than their expensive counterparts.
Interestingly, eighty seven percent of drivers who received tickets for erroneous parking last year appealed their tickets and won their appeal against the fine. With eight million tickets issued, that's quite a large amount, and this figure insinuates that there are a great deal of parking attendants giving tickets in error which will further add to the stress of us finding a car parking space.
And it seems that road parking and car park parking can often be quite different. The cheapest place to park your car on the road is the city of Coventry, where this type of parking is free, although it is five pounds for four hours in a car park. Other interesting differences are in the city of Glasgow where a driver would expect to pay two pounds forty for an hour of street parking, yet only a pound for the same time in a car park.
Wherever you are parking, ensure that you have valid Comprehensive Car Insurance as this is a legal requirement in the UK.
