Parque Nacional Do Iguacu, The Natural Wonder Of Argentina

The national park ofIguacu, or Iguazu, as it is more commonly called

, is one of the greatest natural wonders in Argentina. Located in Misiones, an Argentinean province, the park stretches over more than two hundred square miles.

The park was founded during the third decade of the 20th century, and is now considered to be one of the top tourist spots in Argentina. On its grounds you will find the stunning Iguacu Falls, a natural wonder shared by Argentina with neighbor country Brazil. Parque Nacional do Iguacu was declared a World Heritage Site only a few decades ago.

The history of the place is amazing and starts many thousands of years ago when people called Eldoradense were roaming the land in search of food. The tribes of hunters and gatherers were replaced by Guarani, a tribe that knew how to work the land, and brought with them agricultural inventions. These people were cast away from the land by the conquistadores from the European countries of Spain and Portugal. Still, there are many places in the park that reflect the lands once belonged to the Guarani due to their names.

The park is an amazing place for wildlife watching as many species of animals, birds and other creatures call it their home. Here you will get the chance to catch a glimpse of endangered species such as the jaguar, the South American tapir, the Harpy eagle, and the Yacare caiman. Strange birds fly through the branches of the trees and exotic mammals such as coati live here. If you look closely you can see the beauty of the many species of butterflies living in these woods.

The river crossing the park gives it the name Iguacu and falls into Parana River. Its banks are covered by strange and exotic trees such as the ceibo. The ceibo flower is very beautiful and is considered to be a symbol of Argentina. Here you can take nature walks and explore the different species of plants and flowers that are abundant in this region. The most popular species of plants are the lapacho negro and the palo rosa.

For travelers from outside of the country there is an entrance fee of $20. The cost is caught in half for a return visit the next day if you stamp your ticket during the first day of your visit. The entrance fee includes tickets to board the Rainforest Ecological Train which will take you around the park allowing you to admire its beauties. Be aware that you need to have your money exchanged for Argentinean pesos as no other currency is accepted. Parque Nacional do Iguacu can be reached by bus if you travel from Puerto Iguazu. The El Practico routes leave from their destination every half an hour so it is easy to hop on a bus and get to the falls.
