Parts Repurposing
While we do report that a majority of parts from companies dont fit
, there are other parts from different manufacturers. These parts can and do work between bikes and even other manufacturers. Universal parts can range from handle bars and controls to some suspension parts to bearings, even lights. Sometimes it can take a little engineering, but some Ruckus Parts can fit other bikes as well! Follow along as I give a brief introduction to handle bars that you can swap between scooters, motorcycles, and other bikes!
Handle Bars are the most common parts and sometimes the first visual improvement enthusiasts change on any bike, and in many cases, the Honda Ruckus. This is sometimes the first venture into other vehicular categories, too. Handle bars range in different diameters, lengths, even how they mount! The most standard bar is the type attached with a riser or clamp that attaches to the steering stem. These types of bars come on Dirt Bikes (Motocross bikes), BMX, Mountain Bike, and even some road legal bikes. On motorized bikes, they attach with a riser that attaches to the triple tree, which holds the forks in place. Depending on how your steering stem is designed, you may even be able to use that riser.
Most scooter steering stems attach similar to a typical BMX and Mountain Bike, where there is no riser and the clamp is a part of the steering stem. The stem attaches to the steering shaft and the steering shaft if parts of the triple clamp, as most people call it. You can use the same steering stem as a BMW or Mountain bike, but you must be cautious. The steering shaft of a BMX and Mountain bike is actually larger than most scooter steering shafts! This allows you to use a multitude of handle bars from pedal bikes and can even allow for some motocross bikes if your stem allows for the right diameter bar.
A recent trend has been the use of clip-on bars, which use no riser or steering stem. Clip-On bars attach directly to the front forks of street driven motorcycles; this gives very low, road race bike body position. Its a very popular attaching method of the Caf Style bikes popular in Europe and gaining fast popularity here in the US. These clip-on bars require a special type of steering stem to be used on scooters and most have been made for the Ruckus. Most scooter forks are too low and are not the right diameter, usually being too small.
