PASSIVE Vs PASSIVE-AGGRESSIVE
Passive behavior is acting in a manner that allows otherpeople to get what they want at the passive person'sexpense. Like the aggressive style, it is the behavior oflittle children: helpless, receptive, enduring what others impose without resistance. Whereas aggressors act liketyrannical two-year-olds, passive people act like infants.Their perception of the world is that somehow, somewhere, someone other than themselves will act responsibly and rescue them from the dilemma they're in.

A person who uses passive behavior quite naturallyfeels out of control and uses the behavior as an indirectway to control others. Underneath the placid surface is alot of rage, and with the same lack of control that charac terizes the behavior, the passive person will suddenly turnaggressive in a vain effort to regain control. The result is alack of respect, from others and for oneself, and constantfrustration. Passive people are an energy drain. Peopledon't want to associate with victims, almost as if suchbehavior were contagious, and the passive person's inability to attract others only feeds into his or her feelingsof worthlessness. Aggressives are full of contempt fortheir inability to take risks and seek them out for combat, for the passive person fits perfectly into their "I win-youlose" scenario.
More common than either passive or aggressive behavioris a combination of the two. Because it appears to be adult behavior it is more socially acceptable. Passive-aggressivebehavior is an indirect expression of hostility, resistingauthority and controlling others, and it is much harder todetect, in oneself or in others, because it is childlikebehavior in disguise. Anger and helplessness combine totake the form of clever sarcasm or unkind words, pro crastination and dawdling, inefficiency or forgetful ness.Passive-aggressive types are the backstabbers. the oneswho say, "Don't tell a soul but..."They are the oneswho agree to do something and then come up with a last-minute excuse and leave you dangling. Devious and manipulating, they lose even when they win because they don't know whether they've won fair and square or because they've manipulated the results. Indirect to theextreme, they punish others by punishing themselves.Passive-aggressives like to seek out passive placators whodon't think their ideas or feelings are worth defending, then walk all over them, hating the passivity they recognize, if not acknowledge, within themselves. They willalso placate aggressive people and then seek to undermine them. I heard a definition recently from RobertSubby: Passive-aggressive is when a dog puts his paw onyour shoulder, pisses on your leg, and licks your face atthe same time!Visit the Web's Most Respected Diet Information Site!http://www.articlesbase.com/mental-health-articles/passive-vs-passive-aggressive-3637291.html
