Normally covered in butter, cream and everything delicious
, Paula Deen is switching up gears when she debuts her new home furnishings line with FurnitureBlue. The chef and star of "Paula's Home Cooking" recently announced a new line of affordable home furnishings to her brand, which includes a line of bedroom and dining room sets that focus on the sweet Southern charm that everyone knows and loves.
FurnitureBlue, based in Delray Beach, Fla., will launch Paula Deen Home by University, a home furnishings manufacturer in High Point, N.C. "Paula Deen is an amazingly popular person and many of our consumers easily identify with her casual and comfortable personality," said John Albanese, FurnitureBlue's EVP of Merchandising. "But what makes her collection even better is that she is not only an expert of low country cooking; she is also an expert on low country living." Prepare for Paula's new line of furniture and her new Southern comfort dining with Paula Deen Live tickets from StubHub.
Currently Deen and her country cooking are making their way around the country for the 2010 edition of her live stage cooking tour. The extensive jaunt is an annual event for Deen and her crew, who have been educating women around the country since 2004. The concept for the production stemmed from Paula's successful magazine, Cooking with Paula Deen, and her television show on Food Network. Though it started small, in 2006 she had sold out all 52 classes in less than two weeks. The mother of two boys, Deen's success comes from her own determination to keep her family together through hearty meals.
"I'll tell you what I cook and share the secrets to make it good," she said during the Chicago Housewares Show to the Northwest Indiana Times. "But the most important thing I want folks to realize is that the memories are what matter. Families get to know each other through cooking a meal together, and then sitting down and lickin' their plates clean. Now that's comfort food." Deen defines Southern comfort dishes, but back in 1989 when she was a single mother of two young boys, she was "The Bay Lady." Starting her own company with just $200 in her pocket, Deen created a home meal delivery service in Savannah, Ga. that turned into the restaurant The Lady and Sons.
Still a resident of Savannah, Deen and her sons now support the community with their own Savannah Tours. Celebrating 30 years, the company provides a historical and local approach to the Georgia city with guides who are both knowledgeable and entertaining. But that's just the tip of the iceberg for the Albany, Ga. native who now serves the celebrities, regularly appears on Oprah, is a bestselling author and hosts three shows on The Food Network.
Deen, who had previously suffered from agoraphobia following the breakup of her first marriage and death of both parents, has also gone on to partner with Wal-Mart to launch a line of desserts and recently expanded her Lady and Sons restaurant. Still the down-to-earth mother and economical cook she once was, Deen continues to make people salivate everywhere. See her live cooking tour this year with Paula Deen tickets from StubHub.
