Pear Shaped Diamonds Are Gaining Popularity - Here Is Why
Many years ago, pear shaped diamonds are not very common
. There's the heart shaped, the radiant cut, the oval shaped diamonds but pear shaped stones are virtually unheard of. However, through the years, as brides and women in general gravitated towards the unconventional and unfamiliar, pearshaped diamonds has gradually gained some traction.
The good thing with this diamond design is that if it is set as a center stone of a ring, it makes the wearer's finger appear longer and slimmer. It is generally worn with the wide end facing the fingers. Although, many would insist on wearing it the way they want it and that's okay too.
Perhaps what draws some to this kind of diamond design is that it closely resemble a teardrop. And others still are drawn to the fact that most pear shaped diamonds are set in solitaire. It can hold on its own and needs no further embellishments. There's some sort of statement in that.
In looking over some pear shaped pieces, of utmost importance should be symmetry. The left and right curve of the diamond should be uniformed and the rounded top should not be be flat. In the strictest sense, symmetry dictates that the overall design of the stone is very pleasant to look at. Also, you have to make sure that the tip should be sharp but has to be set in a prong or otherwise, it would chip off.
Pear shaped diamonds comes in a variety of cuts. Some are wider while some takes on a narrow shape. The shape is often dependent on how it's going to be used for. A solitaire ring would require that the diamond be wider in shape while an earring would take on a smaller and narrow pear shaped diamonds. Perhaps, it is the added benefit of a pear shaped stone that it can be set in different jewelry pieces.
One thing to consider though in buying this kind of diamonds, is the degree of bow tie it has. Bow tie refers to the darkened area on the diamond that closely resemble a man's bow tie. To ascertain its degree, you have to have some personal inspection done of the jewelry piece. You can have a diamond consultant do this for you. It's degree could vary from being invisible to the unaided eye or it could be severely affecting the brilliance of the diamond. Although this rarely happens, you have to make sure.
Pear shaped diamonds are a great gem to have. You can have it set on virtually any jewelry piece you want. And with its brilliance and deviation from the traditional shapes, this is one good gem to covet.
