In some cases, a heavier pearl ring can be created with a chunky, irregular baroque' style pearl set in thick gold or silver.

A pearl ring may feature other items such as diamonds, sapphires or rubies. Often smaller gemstones are placed on either side of a large pearls to showcase it. Pearls are harder to set than gemstones, and this makes a really excellent setting stand out.
