Just looking at the cast of "Peep World" had me worried I was walking into a disaster. Michael C. Hall, Rainn Wilson, Sarah Silverman, Ron Rifkin, Judy Greer, Lesley Ann Warren, Taraji P. Henson, Steven Tobolowsky, Alicia Witt, Ben Schwartz, Kate Mara and narration by Lewis Black, to name the main players, and you will recognize a few other faces in there as well. Large well-known casts usually spell doom unless you are in a Robert Altman film and even then it is not guaranteed things will go well. While "Peep World" turns out not to be a bad movie, it never really does anything to make you jump out of your seat and praise its name.

"Peep World" is a film that is easily summed up in one line. After the youngest sibling gains notoriety for a novel he wrote that airs all their dirty secrets, the family finally have their issues out with each other at the dinner party for their father's 70th birthday. The premise and the film that comes out of it too closely resembles a truncated version of "The Royal Tenenbaums" minus the redemption for the family patriarch.

The movie does deliver some laughs (it is a comedy) but nothing that made me really burst out loud in uncontrollable joy. There is one scene of Ben Schwartz at a book reading where he has to deal with some erectile issues that almost got me to actually laugh out loud, but most of the movie had me just sport a small grin, instead. The problem with the movie seems to be that is has too many characters to jump between and while you get the back story for each, it all feels rushed and jumbled. However, part of that is what made the movie a little more standable than most. "Peep World" does feel rushed, but it goes by so fast, you don't feel trapped in the theater waiting for the thing to end (like I do a lot of the times, recently)

There is a lot of talent in "Peep World" but I can't help but feel a lot of it was not used at the max potential and while it doesn't hurt the film, it doesn't save it either. "Peep World" gets its official release in March and is not a waste of money if you wanted to check it out, but there will probably be something else out at the time you may want to peep.

A twisted new take on notions about the naked truth, whether of dirty laundry dysfunctional families or local porn dives, Peep World pits too much information panic against murkier, need to know tabloid obsessions. And while exposing with satirical mischief, the more private, embarrassing dark side in one upscale extended family, the multiple pitfalls of public metaphorical mooning.
