PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease) refers to the infection in ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix or uterus. A large number of women and girls get such infection through sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea and Chlamydia. This infection usually troubles young women and teenagers. The risk of such an infection is higher in those girls who have unsafe sex (sex without condom) and sex with more than one partner. It is very important to get PID treated because if it is not cured it may cause internal scars which in turn may lead to infertility, constant pelvic pain and ectopic pregnancy.

Women who suffer from this disease may or may not suffer from its symptoms. The intensity of symptoms related to PID varies from woman to woman. Some women experience the symptoms of PID in a mild manner. Women who experience the symptoms of this disease may complain of pain in lower part of the abdomen, pain while having sex, fever, nausea, reduced hunger, pain in back or problem in walking, pain while urinating and frequent urination. If we talk about the causes of the occurrence of PID then we should mention that a lot of women get this disease from the bacteria which enter ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, and pelvis through cervix and vagina.

Bacteria which cause infection may also enter the body through different kinds of surgical treatments like endometrial biopsy, inserting of Intrauterine, electic abortion and miscarriages. If women want to prevent the occurrence of this disease then they should avoid having sex with more than one partner. Also, women should have sex while the male partner is wearing condom. Abdominal tenderness is also experienced by those women who suffer from PID. Several tests are done by doctors for knowing about the exact cause of PID. For treating this disease, doctors usually prescribe antibiotics to the patients. Women who suffer from mild PID are generally given antibiotic via injection and prescribed antibiotic pills for two weeks. In more serious cases of PID, women might be admitted in to the hospital.
