Pennsylvania Rebate And Incentive Programs

Are you interested in taking advantage of the opportunity to save some money while

improving the energy-efficiency of your home? If you're a Pennsylvania resident then you could be in luck. That's because this state offers several different rebates and incentive programs for energy saving in the home.

One of the state's most popular current programs is its home heating rebate program. It offers rebates for purchases of energy-saving equipment for general home heating as well as home water heating. Did you know that home heating is the biggest drain of energy in most homes and that more than 10% of your heating bill goes just to heating your home's water? Clearly, increasing energy efficiency of your home heating will help you save a lot of money.

And you can save more when updating the house with the state's home heating rebate program. It offers rebates for water heaters, gas and oil furnaces, and gas and oil boilers. Rebates for qualify energy-efficient products range from $250 to $1000. Additional tax credits may also be available on some of these products.

The home heating program is not the only rebate program in the state, though. The state also participates in tax credit programs offered in partnership with Energy Star as well as with the Tax Incentive Assistance Project. These programs provide significant tax credits for the purchase of a range of different energy efficient appliances. Pennsylvania residents who are updating their home cooling, refrigerators or washing machines may want to look into these tax credit options.

Pennsylvania homeowners can get additional assistance for upgrading their homes. Even with rebates, increasing home energy efficiency can be expensive. It saves money in the long run but homeowners may not have the funds to make the changes to their homes outright. Pennsylvania offers low-interest loans to qualifying homeowners who are interested in making improvements to their homes. This is done through a program called the Keystone Home Energy Loan Program (Keystone HELP).

Keystone HELP loans are available with a range of different options. For example, one homeowner might get a small $1000 loan in order to purchase a new Energy Star washing machine. Another homeowner might get a low cost loan of $30000 to do a "whole house" home improvement. The latter may be available for additional incentives (such as a cash energy audit credit) whereas the former will probably just pay off the loan quickly in a more traditional manner. Pennsylvania residents who are low-income residents may qualify for further assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) program.

Pennsylvania is also making some headway in incentives for renewable resource use. The state is currently working on offering incentives and rebates to residents who update their homes with solar power. The details are still being worked out but this is another great way for residents to obtain a lower PA electric bill.
