We would like to share with you a few of the most common DO's and DON'Ts when planning an indoor or outdoor wedding in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, whether that be Penticton, Kelowna, Summerland, Peachland, Winfield, Oliver, Osoyoos or Vernon.
DO - Confirm any and all bookings that you have at least 1 week prior to the event. Most vendors require payment by this time as well. You should finalize your guest list at this time and contact your venue/caterer/rental company to finalize your guest numbers.
DON'T - Underestimate the weather. The Okanagan is well known for its hot summer days, but it does rain, and is very often windy. You should plan for every possibility especially when doing an outdoor ceremony or reception. Penticton Event Rentals
DO - Consult with Westminster Party Rentals about your tenting needs. We have many options for tenting your event, whether it is for the ceremony, reception or both, we have the knowledge to assist you in planning your tent event needs. DO - Include the Okanagan Valley's natural beauty. If you've chosen this area because of the outdoors there are a number of ways to showcase that. If you are using a tent, consider using panoramic clear walls and a clear top tent. This truly allows you to create your own unique world.
DON'T - Forget that if you are renting linens or overlays, and are planning to have candles, candlewax and ash may damage the rental item. Sparkler candles are especially damaging. Consider using other lighting sources such as LED centrepieces.
DO - Use creative and inexpensive ways to dress your tables. Westminster Party Rentals has an array of cylinders, vases and candle holders for centerpieces and many options for linens, overlays, and napkins. Rocks, twigs, flowers, buttons, lanterns, and candles are inexpensive options that are easily accessible.
DON'T - Forget to read over any cancellation policies before confirming reservations with any vendors. Most have a non-refundable deposit required to reserve. Also ask about any rules or noise restrictions when using an indoor rental. If using a tent event ask about any bylaws when using a public location. ie park, beach etc.
DO - Take advantage of online websites and photo galleries before booking. It is a good idea to know what you are looking for ahead of time so you aren't overwhelmed by all the choices.
DON'T - Reserve too late in the season. The Okanagan is busiest throughout the summer with destination weddings and venues, caterers and rental companies book up fast. Most vendors recommend booking at least a year in advance to ensure availability.
DO - Decide whether you want an informal or formal event. Depending on the theme you are using there are many ways to accomplish that. Do you want a romantic, casual, country, formal or modern atmosphere? Your venue or tent should reflect that. Tent Liners are an easy way to enhance your occasion for any atmosphere.
DON'T - Forget to plan your budget. Typical weddings cost approximately $100 per person, and that doesn't include your wedding dress or tent/venue rental. You should always over estimate the costs to avoid any surprises down the road. Consider scaling down your guest list to fit your budget.
DO - Take recommendations from a rental company for your caterer, photographer, florist etc. Many local businesses have worked together for many years and are familiar with each others policies.
