Peoria 2011 Hyundai Sonata Is Shoppers Favorite Car
One of this years most popular models is the 2011 Hyundai Sonata
, and there are good reasons for it. From the time it was debuted in a widespread way during the 2010 Super Bowl, this sedan has managed to find its way into the minds of car shoppers all around the nation, recently claiming higher shipping numbers that usual top dogs like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.
The Hyundai Sonatas shipping demand reached 130,000 in May, marking the first time it claimed the top spot on the new shipment list and has not looked back. Meanwhile, all Hyundai models combined to total 320,000 shipments in May.
Consumers are discovering that the all-new 2011 Sonata builds on the nameplates legacy of value with exciting design, best-in-class fuel economy and outstanding residual value, said Scott Margason, director of product planning at Hyundai Motor America. The combination makes Sonata a top contender in the competitive mid-size category, so we are pleased, but not surprised, by the market reception so far.
Margason is right about all of that but perhaps over-simplifying the tremendous success the Sonata has enjoyed. For years, the Hyundai Sonata has been a model capable of shouldering the workload of the top midsize sedan on the market, but it and the Hyundai brand lacked the equity necessary to appeal to a wide enough range of consumers. But a couple of things happened to the Sonata for its 2011 edition that have vaulted it into the forefront of the sedan discussion. One is Hyundais updated design language and the other is the debut of the Hyundai Genesis.
Hyundai has been implementing new design language across its models over the last two years, and the sleeker looks are getting consumers attention. Hyundai models are starting to actually look like they money they have always been worth. Combine the Sonatas upgraded look with a car-buying public ready for value with every purchase they make and a vehicle that performs when it comes to fuel economy, and the Sonata emerges as a terrific choice.
The launch of the Genesis also contributed to the upswing in Sonata love by lending a bit of quality currency to a brand that most Americans still would have considered a cheap option one year ago. The Genesis burst onto the luxury car scene and, while it isnt a huge seller, it has caused many consumers to rethink the way they view the Hyundai brand. The Genesis has likely been more effective as a marketing tool than a bankable car model, but its just what Hyundai and models like the Sonata and Elantra needed. The fact that the Genesis took Car of the Year honors gave the brand a big boost in quality perception as well. Given Toyotas recent troubles with quality, the stars seem to be aligning on all fronts for the Hyundai label.
We saw interest rising for the Sonata immediately after its introduction around the Super Bowl, and it has stayed red hot ever since," said Dennis Bulgarelli, director of Automotive at Compete. Not only are we seeing prospects put Hyundai on their shopping lists in record numbers, we're also seeing Hyundai do a great job converting those shoppers to buyers. Its May sales of nearly 50,000 were 33 percent higher than a year ago, with Sonata sales nearly doubling year-over-year.
Dont fool yourselves into thinking that Hyundais success is merely a brief flash in the pan. With cars like the Sonata, this is one manufacturer poised to keep cooking up the bacon.
