Performed By A Plastic Surgeon, A Facelift Turns Back The Hands Of Time

A rhytidectomy is able to improve the most visible signs of aging by tightening and

sculpting the deeper foundation and structures of the neck and face. As a person ages, the effects of sun exposure, gravity, smoking, heredity, weight fluctuations, and the stresses of daily life begin to show themselves in their face. A rhytidectomy procedure can bring back youth to a person's face. In youth, a face is smooth and firm due to proper positioning of normal facial fat and good skin elasticity. As a person ages, muscle tone and skin elasticity weaken and facial fat descends which causes prominent skin folds and deep creases between the corner of the mouth and nose. A person's jowls become more prominent along with loose skin and fat deposits in the neck.

A face lift procedure will not be able to stop this process, but it is capable of "turning back the hands of time." A rhytidectomy (sometimes referred to as a face lift) is made to reduce much of the loeeseness and many of the heavy folds and wrinkles of the neck and face. The procedure will also improve the contour of a person's necklines and jaw. However, a face lift will not completely remove every line, wrinkle, and fold. There is a limited amount of improvement around the eyes and with fine lines of the facial skin. A rhytidectomy alone will not be able to improve acne scars, "smoker's" lines around the mouth, or poor complexion. Other options are available to treat these various problems including chemical peels, dermabrasion, and laser treatment.

Many times a rhytidectomy procedure will be combined with a browlift or forehead lift, lower and/or upper eyelid surgery, and cheek augmentation. Chin implants are frequently placed to improve a person's profile proportions of their jaw line and also to increase the projection of their chin. These various additional procedures can be performed at the same time and in combination with a neck lift and face lift procedure or as their own surgery at a later time. Cosmetic surgeons usually offer a wide range of facial implants that are capable of enhancing one's facial features. Though facial implants can be used exclusively, they are often incorporated with other facial plastic surgery procedures such as a nose job, blepharoplasty, face lift, or forehead lift surgery.

A facial implant will add contour to a person's face and create more attractive proportions. These implants are commonly used in the cheeks, jaw, and chin. Facial implant procedures are performed on an outpatient basis. A similar procedure will be performed for most facial implants. Usually a small incision will be created the the location of the implant and a pocket will be created on top of the bone followed by an implant insertion. The incisions will then be sutured for healing and normal activities can be resumed about a week after surgery.
