The Information Store is the backbone of the Exchange Server platform. Its well being is very necessary for the smooth functioning of corporate communications. However, there are times when you are unable to start the Information Store service, which invariably leads to utter chaos in any organization. Such instances occur when the EDB (Exchange Database) file has corrupted due to any of the various reasons such as unexpected shutdown, hardware problems, etc. In such a case, you need to find the exact cause of corruption and resolve the issue. Cause:

There could be the following reasons for this erroneous situation:

There seems to be a bug in the current version of MS Exchange Server that you are using, which is causing this issue.

It is possible that the EDB file is corrupt, which makes it unable for the Server to mount the database.

Resolution:

To resolve this situation, you should download and install the latest hotfix from the Internet. Restart the system after installing the hotfix.
