Perfume Review: Voyage d'Hermes For Men And Women
Voyage d'Hermes is a brand new fragrance created by the perfume maker Jean-Claude Ellena, who signed other fragrances for the perfume house, like the whole Hermes perfume line Un Jardin among others. This Voyage is based on the same idea: it is a light, unisex fragrance, which reminds of a summer Eau de Cologne, with green notes that at times feel very common, but also with very good quality ingredients and an excellent structure. There are no official notes in the Hermes' website, where the only info given is that it is a fresh, woody perfume with musk.
The opening is quite clean, with two main lines: one of musk with traces of lemon, and a second one of undefined florals, which reminds of the style of Eau de Genatiane Blanche by the same perfume house. There are also traces of soft spices in the background, far from the traditional cardamom and closer to a mint. In the middle phase the lemon notes become more intense and deeper, evolving towards an aromatic grapefruit with traces of powdery notes. The base here is floral, with iris and dry violets. In the final phase there are traces of grapefruit accompanied by a dominating floral note. In the background there are sporadic hints of musk and black tea, and also an idea of ginger.
This is a good quality fragrance, almost hand-made. The fresh style is very close to the one of Jo Malone perfume Lotus Blossom and Water Lily, which is also often quoted as a fragrance with ordinary notes, but with extremely good quality ingredients. Voyage by Hermes is more social than personal, semi-informal on a woman and more relaxed on a man. On the romantic side, it manages to be attractive for both sexes, thanks to well-chosen fresh notes. The ideal age to wear it can start as low as 20 years, although men and women in their thirties may wear it more comfortably.
