A single storey house is certainly less expensive to build than a two-storey one because it needs less construction materials. However, the cost is not of prime importance. There are still more important practical reasons why a house with just one floor is good. For one, kids may like the idea of a two-storey home but the stairs may prove too great a risk. Many accidents that happened in homes have occurred on the stairs.

While living in a single level home, you'll also notice that it's more airy. This is because without having a second floor they are able to have higher ceilings. You'll certainly cut costs on your electricity bills since you won't have to use the air condition during very warm days. You also have less lighting systems installed. Another energy efficient feature is that such homes require only a simple heating system to cover the entire structure.

Having your old folks coming to the house to sleep over and spend some days with their grandchildren will not be a problem for them if you have a single storey home. Since your home doesn't have a staircase, they'll cherish the fact that they can easily move around the house. This will, of course, benefit you too. You don't have to assist your folks every time they want to go upstairs to rest.

The only time that you will notice a possible downside of having a single level home is during a party you are hosting. Because the house only has a ground floor, the bedrooms may not be very far from where people are celebrating. If you have kids or other people sleeping inside, they are likely to be disturbed at the noise inside the house. This is one issue that a double storey home does not have.

Despite that one disadvantage though, a single storey home is still a wise choice. After all, that kind of trouble only happens when you have parties, which isn't on a weekly basis. Just ponder on the savings you will have on your electricity bills. Think of the safety and convenience of your kids in the house. Count the lower cost for home repairs. All these advantages will surely discourage you from deciding on having a two-storey home.
